Those of Baptist faith near Birch Tree met in a log building on a farm that was used by both the Methodists and the Baptists. In 1857 the Baptists organized and became an Independent United Baptist Church of Jesus Christ, first known as Birch Valley Baptist Church. They built a log church building at what is now known as the old Baptist Graveyard.

In 1889 the church decided to sell their log building and build a new church in Birch Tree since the town was growing.

In 1917 the church joined the Shannon County Association  and was declared a Southern Missionary Baptist Church.

In 1967 the church voted to change it's name to First Baptist Church.

On April 12, 1989 the church voted to build a new church builing in it's current location on the north side of Hwy 60 on Hwy FF.  They held their first Sunday Service on February 11, 1990.

In 1994 First Baptist joined Howell Baptist Association, now known as South Central Baptist Association.

The church added an addition to the original building in 2002, and constructed a new sanctuary and activity center in 2018.

First Baptist is so thankful to the Lord for his many blessings and His provision as we have faithfully served to build the Kingdom these past 160+ years. May we remain faithful in His service until He returns.
